2018-2-14 Powerful black powder can be made with mill runs of between 2 and 4 hours. Use long drop cords. Unplug the cords at the electrical source, not at the ball mill, when you want to stop the mill.

A ball mill is basically a large rotating drum filled with charcoal, sulfur and a crushing agent, such as lead balls or heavy stones. The mill is rotated at high speed for up to 48 hours or longer. The result is a very finely powdered charcoal/sulfur mixture.

Black powder consists of three primary components, measured by weight: Potassium nitrate (KNO3) – 75% by weight: an oxidizer, the KNO3 supplies oxygen for the reaction. Charcoal – 15% ...

Wheel mills require damp-processing and their output is a higher density meal than the relatively fluffy output of a ball mill. Comments

I've followed a lot of conversations about making it on various black powder forums and they all milled it in a ball mill and most of them eventually went to corning it because they said it worked better. Corning is compressing it into a puck and then crushing and screening it..

Once you find them, you mix them together and create an explosive black meal. Be extremely cautious when handling black powder, and make sure to store it away from heat and flame.
